Divisions
The following are guidelines for each division. Artists will place themselves in whichever category they feel best describes them. However, if an entrant in the amateur division wins 3 cash awards in the Morton Art Show exhibits, that artist must move into the semi-professional category. This applies to the amateur division only. No person holding a degree in art may at any time participate as an amateur.
Professional - A person who holds an associate or baccalaureate degree in art, architecture or related field: derives a substantial portion of his or her income from his or her art; has achieved professional standards of artistic excellence readily apparent from his or her work; receives a salary for teaching art in secondary school or an institution of higher learning; or has shown work in the professional division previously.
Semi-professional - One who considers art a serious avocation and is interested in competing and selling work; a person who does not paint on a regular basis but has work of professional quality.
Amateur - One who considers his or her work a hobby or is a beginner; a self-taught artist with little art education; participates in local exhibits for personal satisfaction and not necessarily for the purpose of sale.
Junior - Anyone between the ages of 12 and 18.
